Glaucoma is an eye condition that damages the optic nerve; this damage is often caused by an abnormally high pressure inside ones eyes. It is one of the leading causes of blindness for people over the age of 60. Glaucoma is characterized by the lost of peripheral (side) vision. This gradual loss of side vision will eventually lead to “tunnel vision” in severely untreated cases.
With state of the art technology including Retinal Scan (OPTOS) and Visual Field Testing our doctors can detect and properly manage this condition to prevent vison loss. Because 90% of cases are symptomless, one is unable to sense anything wrong with their vision. This is the reason why we recommend to get screened for glaucoma yearly.
